Pinterest Is Gaining Popularity

Pinterest is now the third most popular social networking site behind Facebook and Twitter.

Experian recently published The 2012 Digital Marketer: Benchmark and Trend Report (click here to register with them for a free download of the full 154-page report). One of their key findings?  Pinterest is now the third most popular social networking site behind Facebook and Twitter. You can also read the highlights of the report via SocialTimes.

Amazon now includes the ability for customers to share your book page via their Pinterest boards.  After clicking the Like button on an Amazon product page, if you hover over the Like button, a pop-up window appears. Inside are sharing icons for Facebook, Twitter and, now, Pinterest.

You’ll need a Pinterest account in order to post there. If you don’t have one, request an invitation.  Once you’re approved, you can login using your Facebook or Twitter login. Be aware that these options may give Pinterest access to your friends and followers and may forward anything you pin on Pinterest to these other social media. You can keep everything separate by creating a Pinterest account that’s not related to your other logins.

  1. I think that Pinterest will not see constant growth. As it tunes its code and shuts out back actors it’s going to see periodic drop offs in traffic, followed by new growth. When I talk to people about Pinterest I hear them say, “another social network?” with a world weary tone. Still, it seems to be well used.
