Cover Art Image Resources

They say a picture is worth a thousand words…

No one can deny the importance of good cover art.  Despite the adage “don’t judge a book by its cover,” many buyers will imprint the image from your book cover as part of their decision process.  A good cover can help drive sales, while a bad cover can drive potential readers away.

Today’s technology can help almost anyone design a book cover.  But there’s an art to combining the text and images so they translate well to thumbnail size.  There’s also a science to all the formatting, resolution and sizing.  And there’s a business to making sure the images used are purchased or licensed properly for ongoing use as a book cover.  These are all great reasons to hire an experienced cover art designer.

For the Do-It-Yourself authors or authors who want to gather images to help convey how they see the cover when working with a professional artist, there are a number of sites that feature images for free or for sale.  Be sure to read each site’s Terms of Use to understand how you may use any art you download from the site.
